I am expecting to have set work hours next on the agenda. It seems like the idea is to just keep tightening the screws.

WE3 during record profits and abundant office space!

Imagine what cruel and unusual punishment is being prepared for the next downturn.

WE3 in current high market conditions is embarrassing,, degrading, and insulting.

I’m at a site in what is supposed to be a single office, squeezed/shared with another engineer who smells really bad. Our office is circa 1970 and the ceiling has asbestos. I’d take We3 seating at the Spring Palace over this arrangement. Amazing when I think back to 15 yrs ago as a young engineer I had my own office with a door and a plant! Those were the days…

ExxonMobil is making more money than God but…

Salaries are below benchmark for a lot of functions

Wage increases are not appropriate for inflation because, as explained by management, ‘the company wants to get it right’….which really means they want to delay in order bridge to the next recession in order to pay less.

The expat policy, that was cut during COVID, has not been right-sized again. Many expats have to financially supplement their assignments.

Our jobs are being outsourced, with no accountability to ensure the outsourced jobs are done WELL.

Our benefits are perpetually being cut or adjusted to move exposure away from the company and onto the employee.

HR has been outsourced, and questions/concerns tend to lead to dead-ends.

Our trash cans were taken away.

Our coffee cups were taken away.

We were told that WFH should be sparingly used, and we should be in the office most times.

….

And now our desks are taken away.

When you list it all out, you really wonder what the company is trying to do here? And this is the treatment in the best of times.

Makes the workplace feel unfriendly and transactional. Hate it!

If I don’t travel often, why take my desk? Ask me to clean it up for someone else’s use when I won’t be there. Then let the people with 50% travel/wfh WE3. (If you don’t have enough WE3 people, offer compatible roles a chance to wfh 50% of the time.

As always, EM found the most unfriendly way to roll this out. Some man/woman in plodding ahead without asking themselves whether it is the right thing to do….all so they can highlight it on their performance review. Their PDS write up should really read “Alienated an already alienated workforce by taking away their desks. Created a culture that helped assist attrition, to not only achieve opex targets of questionable electricity savings but also meet reduced headcount targets.”

I’ve done We3 a few times and do not like it at all. We should just be allowed to work from home.

WE3 is acceptable in a time of need where the company is growing Beyond the seating capacity available.

Implementation of WE3 with excess desks available for individual assignment is absolutely insulting.

@pzj+1jeRy2Cj it’s not like you change desks every day or change floors. 99.9% of the time you use the same desk, especially if you have any ergo equipment. You can also get an assigned desk for ergo reasons if you’re that desperate to maintain your desk that .1% of the time…management makes plenty of bad decisions that have a real impact, this really is being blown way out of proportion. It’s basically nothing.

I personally do not want to move to WE3, but I’m surprised the company wants to go that route. At one time, ergonomics was important and all my co-workers had at least one piece of ergonomic equipment and quite a few had multiple items. Some people have special desks and chairs (including me). How does one drag all your ergo stuff to a different desk everyday?

Also, not to be a snob, but who wants to share things like chairs and keyboards? I am a bit messy and very small (the size of a child actually). I eat at my desk and have been known to spill drinks on my chair. Who would want to sit on a somewhat dirty chair that is far too small, and use a somewhat “crumby” keyboard?

I’m sure these things are considered when moving to WE3, but it seems like it could cause a significant amount of unnecessary bother (at least until we cram everyone into a couple buildings).

Maybe like many other things, ergonomics is no longer important to the company.

WE3 to be the new norm by year-end at Brussels headoffice, including for CL29 and maybe too for Exec (unsure).
All employees will be packed in one of the two buildings (at least those whose position hasn't been offshored to Budapest) and the other building vacated will be leased.
Heard of a couple of “big g-ns” not happy to lose their 150 sq.ft private office... Like it or lump it... 😆
