Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Not looking forward to another waiting game

It wouldn't be the first time that news of cuts came out and then Intel let us wait for weeks to see what was going to happen. I find that unacceptable. If we have to go through another round of the waiting game our mental health will suffer for no good reason. Why make us wait and stress? Why not let us know right away?

Yeah just make sure not to walk into the door. Plenty of good looking opportunities out there that are a gamble.

If you have been there a while, you know the signs. Once they start a hiring freeze, it will happen.

At most companies that are public it takes 6-8 weeks to go through the legal process for a layoff. This is after the managers get new budgets and figure out what to cut. No public company leader can comment during a quiet period because of insider trading rules. So earnings will probably be the new budget specifics, then a couple weeks to let that soak in, then 8 weeks of lawyers. Minus some weeks because their must be some pre planning. You get to November. And if the id--t leaders in marketing would stop talking to the press then it will probably come together better.

An opportunity lost creates the space for even a better opportunity to walk through the door. Since most of the people seem to agree Intel has a bleak future in the current competitive environment, why try to stay onboard a sinking ship as long as possible? It may be time for most of us to step out of our comfort zone to grab better opportunities for ourselves and our dependents.

Simple answer OP, they don't care. Maintaining silence during the quiet period is infinitely more important than your wellbeing. Over the last 20 years employees went from being lauded as the reason for the companies success to being viewed as a liability. Thanks to the Rise of The Bean Counters (From PO going forward) the investors are now given more consideration, and they want instant profit every quarter rather than running the company for longterm health.

Don't stress out. It will be very limited layoffs in sales and marketing. Engineering team is immune.

Intel is doing its best to supply its competitors with the finest, experienced, skills in the industry. Samsung, TSMC, and others will be glad to fill their open reqs in the USA much easier than expected. Thank Intel for being a great university for all the other companies. These kind of self-inflicted wounds are irrecoverable in a progressively tight job market where more than half of the baby boomers are retired by this year and zoomers are a small demographic.
