CMOs hands down. Marketing in 3M is a black ho-e. The current CMOs are laughable and that’s exactly what’s happening on no cam teams meetings, laughing. Eliminate them and see. It won’t make an iota of difference. Same for the corp comms org.

Tough to say, cmo org is hidden and nobody knows what they do, we all work with segment so its clear theyre BSing us on a daily basis

Npi marketer manages new product launches. Business marketer manages products, price, etc. segment marketer manages powerpoint decks.

How is a segment marketer different than an NPI marketer, regular business marketer and a shopper marketer?

The segment marketer commenting on here should be careful. 80% of the slides in his or her deck are just stolen from product marketing, marcom, or sales. Yet here you are again, for the 4th time in 20 yrs, with your big ideas and smarter-than-the rest attitude!!

I triple dog dare you to stop using powerpoint and watch how quickly all your meetings dry up.

The reason nobody has their cam on is because theyre laughing at you. When RE is gone you will be too.

Cmos hands down. The position can be eliminated and there won’t be an ounce of difference. They only animate ppts. They don’t even have the brains to make an original presentation. Even brian Henry might be more useful and that’s about as bad as it can get. What exactly does tebg need a cmo for?

Some of us who are segment marketers don't feel we are useless. We're trying to bring 3M up to a competent, customer centric marketing organization - aligning relevant valuable solutions to real customer needs and pains. Not just pushing a sh-t ton of technology (great or otherwise) that nobody wants or needs. We are fighting small minded, ignorant "marketers" who should just stick to fixing supply chain and pricing and get out of our way. But I get that it is scary for the old school "where are the tech sheets and brochures for sales reps" portfolio crowd. Segment shows them what they will never be.

This is worthy of a new thread.. the power couples who both work at 3M. It’s the second phenomenon to all the legacy losers who had to have their daddy’s get them hired on at the company cuz fhey couldnt go get their own career.

I digress from the cmos …agree she has done incredibly while riding on the coattails of roman and accomplishing nothing.

One of them has followed mike roman around the company for more than a decade, promited every two years altho she has accomplished nothing

🤡We are merchandisers, will never be marketers.

The thing is - the “Vision” said we needed them, and we would if were to truly become a market focused company. But we are not - we are product/technology focused and we’ve stayed that way. That’s what ticks me off, is that we resource to a plan that we never execute on. Wasted money.

One of the CMOs should have retired 5 yrs ago. Sitting around collecting his fat paycheck adding zero value.

1000% agree. The cmo roles must be eliminated

There is no reason for the cmo to even exist. Another example of A3M creating more high level roles that never existed before at the cost of 2-3 workers who actually do work.

Hard to decide. Both are equally incompetent.
