Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Farley (and Ford) are gentrifying Ford Motor Company.

Let me explain.

Gentrification is the process whereby the character of a poor urban area is changed by wealthier people moving in, improving housing, and attracting new businesses, typically displacing current inhabitants in the process.
"an area undergoing rapid gentrification"
The process of making someone or something more refined, polite, or respectable.

In the case for Ford Motor Company, management thinks the "car people" are ruining the company. They believe if you simply fill the roles with folks who have a Silicon Valley mindset, everything will take car of itself.

They believe with the presence of folks who talk / look / act like Silicon Valley types, investors and customers will be drawn in and the character of Ford will transform (and profits will move in a positive direction). Ford is not Tesla. Tesla does an incredible amount of end-of-line systems engineering. They put a lot of folks on fixing the product after it has been produced. Even so, the finished product is not that great. There are quality issues. The Tesla customer seems to generally overlook the poor quality because they are getting a feature-rich and perceived style-rich product.

Keep firing and hiring Jim... Hackett started by " retiring " plenty and bringing in his chosen - which have done NOTHING to move the company forward. Remember Ford Smart Mobility? wtf did they accomplish under his leadership nothing. Then these idioits that call themselves Dford , more talk and nothing that has led to improve profits. The stock is terrible and Bill cant be happy. So what does Farley do, he terminates good people that have worked hard to carry the company through hard times and brings in rejects. What the he-l is going on? We are a car company, we make or used to make great vehicles. When my director speaks nothing but bs comes out of his mouth. Sad. I'm angry and don't know how to handle this. My closest friends were all terminated ( all over 50 and with over 25 years, hard to convince me it isnt ageism! ) 10 years in and realize i shouldve moved on after 2 years. Sc--w loyalty and commitment. Field is nothing more than a job hopper. I dont have any confidence in him. More layoffs? damn right more are coming. Hope it will be the id--ts from Hewlett Packard, all smoke and mirrors. If you have 20 years in at Ford, good luck you have a target on your back.

Since 1995 (or Ford 2000) Ford has lost its focus on product. Instead we have a family member who want to leave a legacy so bad. but up to now his track record is horrible. between 01-06 nearly ran the company into bankruptcy. he was pretty much fired by his own family. people forget numerous family members threatened to sell the family preferred stock. Then you have this train station fiasco. first it was supposed to rival Silicon Valley, instead it may rival Lebanon in the middle east because that is what it looks like. If his name was not Ford, he would have been shown the door a long time ago.
Then you have Farley. Like one poster said what real successful thing can he hang his hat on? SCION that did not last very long now did it. You wander why Toyota people ask us how you let him run the company.
Then you have Doug Field. his resume reads like a professional job hopper. So I for one do not feel very confident in him yet.

There is no question the company needed an overhaul. It was getting out of hand after Ford 2000. When we lost focus on product and quality. instead, we go out and buy again another family projects like LR/Volvo just so the family can have them.
since the CY 2000 our launches have been right into the toilet. starting with the Focus and Escape. complexity is out of control. but we have clowns in senior management who continue to blame the lower ranks for their poor decisions. Not one of them had a pair to stand up to these people and just say "NO".
Well, the bench we had for management at Ford in PD is collapsing due to people more focused on their careers than to win. We don't play to win.
I don't call them leaders because none of them even comes close to the definition of a leader. and you have the press especially the local writers that build up Farley like he is the second coming of Iacocca.
Well, he is no Lee that is for sure, and Billy is nothing more than something you see at a circus.
If Jim Farley told me, it was daylight and i am sitting next to a window. I would walk outside to check for myself. because he is not to be trusted. He is a salesman, and he peddles that stuff you find sometimes on the bottom of your shoe. Peter Delorenzo is the only writer who has this guy begged. He is an ELON want to be. well Bozo ELON puts men in space. You cannot even figure out which shoe you will put on first.

When Ford owned Jaguar, Land Rover and Aston Martin, they were infatuated with anyone who had a Brit accent.

Elon Musk has cache. Bill Ford and Farley do not. Neither does Doug Field.
