Thread regarding 3M layoffs

Exploiting Work your way

If Tireman or his secret agents is reading this, please stop Work your way program especially in the plants and regional teams. People are exploiting it and we can see many claiming work from home but resting. Let's be fair to the direct production folks.

I work as an engineer in factory but somehow we are allowed to WFH 1 day per week. That is like a free day per week which saves me travel time. Very glad with this arrangement. 3M HR is very welfare.

For those that are fake working from home, they can monitor every keystroke, so you can forget about the mouse jiggler trick. You are better off making your bs 4 blocker in the office.

To the original post, do you have any data, any reference that suggests that productivity decreased during Work Your Way?

Bull. When we were in the office there were plenty of people who did not do cr-p. I think being remote helps managers see the output more clearly.

WYW is great, I really am doing a shedload of work at home, I hardly get a minute, sign in and keep my availablility on , keep doing my Powerpoints and then I can plan out my 8 hour shift to finish at midday

In an era where everything about 3M looks very bleak.....think of 3M stock price, the tsunami of litigations, zero organic growth for the enterprise, zero to limited career growth opportunities, yearly layoffs for the past 4 years, super high attrition rates esp. among new employees, the only positive thing is WYW.

Yes of course some people will exploit this privilege, as they do in almost all big organizations. Highly demoralized workforce, esp. at the bench level, is also a factor. It is up to the supervisors to figure out who is slacking . 3M has a veritable army of supervisors in their arsenal and hence that should not be any excuse.

If 3M decides to do away with WYW protocols, one can surely expect that attrition rates will blow through the roof. That will happen immediately. This is the feedback I got after speaking with numerous newer colleagues at 3M.

"Getting paid 165k per year for the work my way means I can keep coasting with 2 percent raises till I hit 60 and can take the venerable old 3M pension"

You are the type of 3Mer I detest. You are the ones who spoil work-your-way for all the rest. I hope your supervisor makes your work life miserable so you will just retire.

LG14 here. I work hard but not like the old days. I live getting to clear my calendar from 1130 to 1 pm everyday with focused work when I really move from home office down the hall 6 feet and take a nap.

Getting paid 165k per year for the work my way means I can keep coasting with 2 percent raises till I hit 60 and can take the venerable old 3M pension.

Good night to all.

  1. You agreed to work in production whereby you must be physically at work. It didn’t bother you when you were hired and so it shouldn’t bother you now.
  1. If you are dissatisfied with your current position, there are over 10 million jobs available in the United States, some of which would permit you to work from your home.
  1. Anyone who falsifies their time card (e.g. resting while they should be working) are subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination. Moreover, anyone with firsthand knowledge of this nefarious activity should report it immediately. Rumors and speculation are not evidence.
  1. Why don’t you remove the beam from your eye and stop bloviating about the splinter in the eyes of others?

This is a debatable topic. OP needs to calm down.

I “work my way” from home most of the time. I have almost no chance to rest during office hours. Very often, this worker bee here works deep into the nights, with short lunch and dinner breaks. All these in exchange for an average performance rating.

Enviable? Guess not. Grass is always greener on the other side.

If they are not working their performance review will reflect that. Why you have to worry about others? Do your job and make sure you are not getting fired like those other falks. How hard this for you?
