Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Pretending is exhausting

Is everyone pretending? I'll have had 3 one-on-ones with my manager by December 12th. They are unbelievably superficial and barely last the allotted time. The last one was 15 minutes of small talk.

We have a town hall with a bunch of powerpoints announcing new initiatives from "leaders" that have been on the job less than a quarter. Thanks boss. I'll get right on those skill builders.

What page of the script are we on again?

I actually relish the opportunity to chat with my manager. Covid shelter/shutdown/reopening has messed with my head something fierce, and as he happens to have a degree in the psychology field, it comes as a bit of relief to just check each other on our mental health and how we're holding up. I'm not so confident that I'll not get the ax, as I haven't had a 1:1 in a few months now, but I've been saving and am ready for this recession to make some moves.

Yes the one on ones are just ridiculous but you do have some employees who feel they need it. Most of us don't need these and they're just something Cisco commands of their managers to do and like you my one on ones are painful to make even last 15 minutes, but to be fair I've done these at other companies too
