Our manager tries to make us feel safe

It is interesting how much the manager tries to make us believe that our positions are safe. Anyone else have such a manager? I hope that not many buy into it so that later they don't regret not being more proactive in looking for new offers.

Managers (may be only 10+) and some non-managers have signed a NDA, like 2018. And they know A LOT, just can't disclose.

I am in AME and tell you frankly .. it is so frustrating to be here .. bring new in job it is very bad experience. I do not like the AME leader HP as she has hidden agenda and always has two face. One in public to show that she is not biased and second one in private which is terrible, corrupt, racist and very very biased towards employees that look and speak like her.

Unfortunately my manager is brand new ( he started 2 weeks before the announcement). He’s not one of the brainwashed elite that have been around since the IBM acquisition, so he is trying to be as transparent as possible. Poor guy hasn’t had enough exposure to try to lie to your face and toe the company line just yet.

It is very likely that your manager does not know and they will be as shocked and surprised as you when they have to do the deed of letting you know. Many people already know this and don't ask their manager.
It may also be that your line manager may not be the person doing the talk.
Very few people know the numbers and who it will be.

Yeah the "talking point" program where all the first line managers speak in one voice and second line speaks in another with a few extra things to add like macro economy, market conditions blah blah really erodes human trust. It also leads to detachment of leaders from the led. I doubt whoever devised this system has any clue how successful companies handle internal communication.

They are lying. They have lied to us almost entire time at GF. Mislead misrepresent…. They are conmen selling us snake oil for years….you can’t trust them. My manager is a super nice guy. A good person. But terrible manager and has been caught and confronted about the truth on various hr projects, agendas, raises and promotions.

They are told what to say on various topics. Ever notice you will hear verbatim same answer and phrases to questions from different ones. It’s odd don’t you think? No they got a memo saying what to say.

I think this time they are afraid of repercussions. Or if they affected they will struggle to find new work as their reputation will follow them

First and second line said they knew nothing, department director admitted in a thanksgiving email that we would lose people, but I genuinely don’t think most section managers have a clue.

You're manager is trying to reassure his/her self. Anyone in a position that starts with C but doesn't end with Suite, can be cut.

Our first and second line managers told us the morning the video was released that "word from above" was that we were all safe. I agree we can't afford to lose anyone since we're operating very lean, but we'll see

That's what they do at many companies so people stay focused until the end. The managers where I am are not saying anything about it at all and we know not to ask but they don't tell us we are safe. They are talking less than previous layoffs here
