Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

When will layoffs begin?

Not much talk about the main subject of this forum.

Managers want more people, not less. There is too much work and not enough people.

I assume there will be a lot of effort out of managers to act like bullies and to make people feel bad enough to quit during RTO. If they can't find enough reason to fire people, bully them into quitting, or opportunities for them to fill. Then they will do mass layoffs. Like the raises they were slow to implement when people were leaving left and right, lay-offs will likewise be slow to implement with a lot of talk and meetings before the final plan.

I anticipate before 2024.

Computer people can work for any company.

When some companies stop hiring or lay off, there are fewer choices which lowers wages and cause people to put up with conditions they shouldn't have to.

Twitter and Meta have nothing to do with GM. Quit playing pretend.

I agree with both comments below - that RTO turnout will help determine if layoffs happen and that mass layoffs from other companies will have a psychological effect on turnover motivation. Like many here, I believe that RTO is really all about making people miserable enough to quit. There's no reason for it and it will absolutely not help collaboration or workflow. It will be a distraction and will make people miserable. The result will be lower productivity which will cause all kinds of threats and hand-wringing. Regardless, if the sales in 2023 go way down as expected due to rising interest rates, will probably will see some layoffs. I'm expecting the worst and hoping for the best. I'm also expecting to see very little quitting over RTO. I don't think the opportunities are really there like people think. But who really knows? Not hard to imagine 2023 as being full of drama.

With all the layoffs at Twitter and Meta, I think a lot fewer people will quit GM over RTO. Which means any layoffs will have to be bigger because people won't leave voluntarily.

No one who has real information will post here.

This board is a mixture of speculation and trolling.

Now for my speculation: I think they'll wait to see how the RTO goes and whether people are mad enough to quit. After the dust settles and they see how many people are still here, they'll make layoff plans

Not that I mind other chatter, but it would be nice to occasionally learn something about coming layoffs, if possible.
