I don't think it a good policy to judge someone's motives, especially when on the face the statements are kind. I wouldn't want anyone to do that to me anyway. Yes, strategy and decision making are in bounds. That is part of constructive confrontation. Impugning a fellow, not so much.
Guys - what do you expect? This is how corporate America works. If you don't like it, leave. No one has a g-n to your heads.
