Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

If the layoffs are after global cast…

I don’t think they will be next week if after global cast as they usually like to do all five shifts over two days so would do Tuesday/Wednesday or Wednesday/Thursday.

There is a way to put people on paid leave of absence and not trigger the warn act until they want it to trigger. By then all the paperwork will have been signed and it will not matter anyways. Enjoy the cr---y severance.

It would be weird to do on a Monday. In the past they do over two days to get all five shifts. So if that week is the week it would be 12/13 and 12/14 I’d think

Monday 12/12/22 is the date unless legal review takes longer than expected.

In lieu of WARN is to sc--w people out of unemployment. Spread the word nobody should sign it! It hurts people on H1B visas giving them a sooner end date

In lieu of warn act forms means less than 250 on one ny site affected, no?

It will happen before GlobalCast. Lists have been submitted and HR is working feverishly to put together packages for affected employees.

Don’t look to NY warn database. Global will have most of us sign “in lieu of warn act” forms when we do our severance sit downs.

On workday where a nervous MT asked when layoffs will be as they are losing sleep over it (in the comments section where he gave his speech) LK responded with you will learn more at the globalcast on December 1. So that doesn’t mean layoffs won’t be until after that? I thought that’s what she was implying

Who’s implying that it will be after globalcast? All I see is people saying that an update will be provided at globalcast, which isn’t saying they’re not going to walk people out on Tuesday, just that they’re not gonna communicate any more until Thursday.

2018 pivot there was no communication, just the walkouts and then the globalcast where Tom tried to smooth things over and reassure us that we’d never have to do this again (hmm)

So you think they are telling the truth it will be after globalcast (which they strongly imply)?

It’s out of their playbook. They realize this time around people are really smelling something fishy. That something is definitely wrong at Globalfoundries. This very strong vibe that has flare up can not be ignored. And they can feel the reaction too and are trying to damage control and cover their tracks too. They are going to try to redirect the narrative as to avoid deeper investigation and questions into the health of Globalfoundries. It’s simply they are trying to cover their as--s from a more thorough look.

The other wrinkle here is we are now a public company. If this vibe and bad sentiment were to reach the public average Joe the stock could take a hit. So they are trying to soften the situation and make it sound logic in the face of a decent earnings report so investors aren’t thinking wtf??

I agree with you but they seem to want us to believe the layoffs will be after the globalcast.

I don’t understand the point of waiting until after a globalcast to do it, versus doing it right before the globalcast so he can talk about how “we had to make some tough choices but we’re in this together now going forward” or some bs.
