Since Cisco announced layoffs, share price of Cisco is increasing, I am not saying there is a connection, just something to look at.

If you are ever confused about the purpose of companies... they don't exist to 'employ people', they exist to.. blah blah blah shareholder value, blah, return on equity, blah blah... you know the rest. If a company could exist entirely with robots performing all the tasks then they would.
Layoffs were not the only thing announced in the earnings call ...
It's almost always the case. Investors love cost cutting measures as they're likely to improve profitability. It's all very cynical.
