I no longer believe that giving your best can save your job. Actually, does anyone believe that hard work is still valued here?

Hard work doesn't save a job - smart work that solves somebody else's problems beyond expectations does!
Hard work is never valued by its own sake. Only results (or skilfull PR) count.
