Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

At this point almost hoping

After nearly 2 weeks of waiting and wondering, I am over it. GF has revealed itself as a clusterf”ck of a company. Hope having GF on the resume doesn’t hurt me in my job search. Either way I am leaving GF through layoff or quitting. Gonna head south or west. Have had enough of Upstate NY and GF. They can both SMD

They want to save 200 million dollars in 2023 over 2022 so they need to get rid of a ton of high paid people or will ship work overseas. I am sure mubadala made this cost cutting target for them which is not realistic while keeping business smoothly running . They outsourced IT and that has been a disaster. They have a small presence in the US and a manager who manages the employees in India too

GF do not need to layoff employees. They should just maintain the attrition rate of >20% and things will be in shape some day. We do not have cutting edge technology or challenging research so as long as we keep recruiting new employees from local universities such and SUNY etc just to ensure that departments have enough to keep routine work running, we will be fine. These local university candidates do not need high pay and they will stay at least few years. GF has done well to fill manager and director level positions with incompetent , failed , corrupt and a-s lickers who will never find job outside so they can rely on them to keep departments running as long as AMD, QCOM , Mediatech and Marvell keep throwing some orders. GF is cheap manufacturer of their mature tech and they will like to keep GF alive to have good bargain and leverage with their primary source.
GF has done well to promote all incompetent managers and some even became VPs. This will help then as these a-s lickers will die in GF but never leave as they are failed leaders with no technical competency.

GF could not find leader in US to run its business and needed bring culture from Asia ???? This is really questionable and speaks the short term view of guys who by mistake reached to CEO level. To stay in this fight GF needed true leadership which it never got. How the board can be so blind and shortsighted? Why they allowed GF to die like this ?

I left GF last month and so happy to get rid of toxic environment in AME thanks to HP and her incompetent list that is getting worse. See who are getting promoted and managers in AME. It is all bunch of jokers , failed guys who do not know semiconductors.

stupid comment @mpl, look at how many people have left GF over the past few years and joined Intel, Samsung, Wolfspeed, TI or NXP and so on

sounds like people are full of sh-t.. or there are issues with individuals themselves (looking at you 👀)

In past I have heard recruiters/HR at other places look down on GF applicants. I have heard a few say they wouldn’t touch an applicant coming out of GF with a ten foot pole. It is definitely a blemish on our resume. That is also why many new grads don’t come here unless they have no other options. They go to a “name brand,” top tier semiconductor company (Intel, Samsung, apple, etc.)

If you move South, don’t dilute the culture and “the way of life” with a NY-style vote at the polling station.
