SME are promoted every other year. Non-SME every 4-5 years. Plan accordingly.

Those who ask for promotions get left behind. Earn it, don’t talk about it.

The more you ask for one, the higher likelihood you get marked to slow down your CO (Compa-ratio), one criteria for promotion consideration. Which means lower ratings, lesser opportunities.

Indeed. You know you are a bonafide SME candidate when you come straight to the site where the SME's of life itself reside! The laid-off downtrodden and those who are either expecting to be or are so incompetent that they WILL be soon laid off home to all. The lowliest of the lowliest. Welcome my son. You have found your home.

The promotion process is a black box and is broken.

It’s discussed once a year. Promotion proposals get submitted in July, then go through various layers of approval, then get communicated to the promoted employee in October, and it’s effective November 1. If you want a promotion, start telling that to your supervisor in the spring and use your mid year PMP in June to talk about how you should complete and submit the justification form.

"SME" is one of those CTC self-appointed titles that means nothing in the BUs. Everyone in CTC forms a circle and pats each other on the back how great a job they're doing.

Promotes are submitted in July, communicated in November. There have been a couple “flight risk” rounds mid-year, but who knows if we’ll get another in 2023.
