Of course, if companies are willing to harm their brand image and accept reduced profits, they are free to mandate RTO.

They simply don’t care and are operating under their typical hidden agenda. Most likely revolves around the almighty dollar.
The company is doing this for the sake of improved comradery. Some sacrifices need to be made to employees' health and (in some cases) mortality. Funny thing, nobody in management publicly said the work was not getting done under the wfh policy for the last 2 years. You would think we at least deserve a report-out of DATA showing pros/cons.
I am not a boomer so I will likely be unaffected (U) .
There are intangible benefits that were associated with the Edsel. They were outweighed by the detriments but still there were intangible benefits.
I think that it is the People Leader's responsibility to delegate tasks to their staff such that they are 'busy' an appropriate amount of time. Some workers may struggle to keep up ith their tasks while others may fly through their tasks and have time 'left over'.
I hated reading stories about some remote workers just doing stuff around their house most of the workday and pulling in big paychecks while other departments were never granted the ability to work from home. But I blamed the people leaders for that.
I genuinely think that the real reason Ford wants people back in the office is because city tax incentives depend on workers actually being in that city and spending money in that local economy, and also so that bad people leaders can see which workers are flying through their tasks and assign them more and more while continuing to pay them the same as their peers who struggle to get through their day.
It will be 'Old Ford' all over again. Tons of micromanaging and tons of a-- kissing as less capable employees jockey for position as the 'golden children' of select higher ups...
#17: if your boss can’t see you, they don’t know you aren’t working.
Thanks OP - Was aware of most of that, but I had not thought of the 'streamlined communication' and 'better branding'. One major benefit for me: - I bought my 'bucket-list-dream' vintage Baritone Saxophone with money I saved from not commuting ! :)
