Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

Employee morale

The current situation has dropped employee morale to new depths. I didn't think it was possible because it was already near the bottom but I was wrong. It almost feels sometimes that the leadership is doing it on purpose. I know that's not true, but damn if it doesn't feel like it.

GF will layoff 10% of Management’s teams (Directors and above). Hire new VP (or promote)and directors. Just look at 2018 (the latest large layoff), the number of VP and directors compared with the current numbers. They promoted all the Fab VP to Sr VP so they can promote the directors to VP…

If you look at T(#1 foundry in the world), the Fab is run by Director, not VP or Sr VP!!

All the title at GF is being balloon as this is what they call provide career growth for their employees

Ki----g morale is intended - they only need to lay off half as much as they need - I heard almost as many left after pivot, if not more. Means they pay less severance, lie about breaking contract with NY state to keep >3k employed on site for tax breaks and keep fingers in CHIPs act honey pot.

I don't find the Asian preference present for MTs or PTs or equipment engineers or facilities. Largely in quality and process engineering

Not sure if preference of Asians in AME could be brought into court.

Pivoting will continue until morale improves.

They need to be held accountable. All our managers and leadership. I cringe at thought of running into my mgr at a new company. All chummy like we are pals. No as----e! You lied and misled me for years. You are part of the problem. And you fd with my career and by extension my life. And that makes it personal

I mean that’s one way to get rid of people and achieve the same goal- lower moral enough that people start quitting on their own, then you don’t have to lay off as many and GF can keep a better public image by laying off less.
I would not be surprised if this was part of the plan, it’d be a missed opportunity if they didn’t do this if thinking like a greedy corporation

To quote Mike Cadigan @IBM
"The company is not responsible for your morale"

Morale is very low in my department as well.. seems similar to what I used to see during 7 nm pivot.. people are refreshing resumes openly and everyone just talking about steps after layoff.. very demoralizing atmosphere.
Hate this leadership that has failed miserably. We are all highly convinced that this GF is sinking because of these highly incompetent leaders. PB’s failed experiment to bring Asians from Singapore and bringing them and remaining failed ones to managers and leaders role was already ki----g morale in Malta and now this layoff news again ki----g whole company . What a terrible environment to be. Hate it.
