Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

What Tom Caulfield said in the All Hands meeting following the 2018 Pivot.

Like many of you who stayed with Global after the traumatic layoff in 2018 my whole department was gutted and was seeking answers.

In the all hands meeting about 2 weeks after the "Pivot" Tom had said "This was a hard strategic choice to make but ensures we wont have to make this choice again." As a way to ease the minds of everyone left. I certainly never forgot what was done to so many of my colleagues during that Pivot and was always wondering how long it would be until i got layed off. I think this is my time now.

It feels stupid that we do all these refreshers on ethics, and equality and how to treat people correctly when the ones that really need that training are the executives and CEOs that are leaving so many without a job just in time for the holidays. I'm bitter. I'm upset. I'm mad. I feel so many employees on site are as well.

The guy is embarrassing. A half witted mo--n masquerading as a tech leader surrounding himself with yes men & women as his direct reports who are unemployable elsewhere in tech industry.

Pending recession? Where have you been? This is the best economy ever according to the half wit dummy who sits at the WH.

Anyone else think TC looks like a coked out used car salesman?

For decades, even in his service to IBM, Tom Caulfield’s speciality was profits over employees. Ask me how I know… When I heard his name while working at GlobalFoundries I made my escape and never looked back! Yes, it was difficult but there is lots of life after GlobalFoundries. Have courage, make an exit plan & Best to all!

@ady+1jK29uqE - yes!

I don’t know why TC and other GF leaders have this aura or reputation of being good business leaders. Their business track records are horrendous. The only thing they can say is they have experience and been in these roles for a long time. But it’s a long track record fumbling the ball and poor business choices. But yes they have been doing it for a long time and therefore have experience and that’s why they stay in position.

They are the ones that drove ibm hardware into the ground. You can say it was this or that outside variable that contributed to getting us here, but really despite those variables they made poor business choices that accelerated the problems. A lot of their decisions feel knee jerk short term solutions that manifest long term in our future problems. They punt the problem down the road only for it to come back bigger and stronger years later.

I am not saying they are d-mb in fact they are quite intelligent people. Many are great engineers and scientists, but they are horrible business professionals.

Did Samsung, Intel, apple announce layoffs? I see micron, wolfspeed and onsemi are hiring big time?

@hzf+1jK29uqE Wtf do you mean then?

Are you referring to meta and Amazon? Come on dude that isn’t our world. Sure it’s tech industry but not our niche. D-mby

What Tom and Ron Sampson said at that All Hands Mtg made me cringe because I know it was something that shouldn't have ever been said....an outright "feel good" lie. Reading many of the comments on this board about people feeling betrayed is warranted because GF and Tom portray this as a community and "company of the people" and that we're different / better / higher integrity than our industry peers. Of course, at the end of the day, GF isn't any different or better or higher integrity and this is where people need to learn to not be fooled. Unfortunately, the learning for people believing GF was better is a hard lesson. Just recall the recent video from our new HR SVP about "caring for people" as another example of GF portraying itself as standing apart from the rest because we have good health care, stock purchase plan, etc as a rationale to justify uncompetitive pay. So what....this isn't above and beyond compared to the industry. Welcome to reality folks.

Lay off poor performers at GF with hopes of hiring those layed off from Intel etc.

Also we underpay compared to others by 25 percent and are less flexible with working from home so why be the leader for layoffs? You’d think you’d want to retain people. Also we will be the first semiconductor company to actually carry out the layoffs and are just second to announce it

Companies that are laying off are doing so after missed quarterly earnings. Here it is happening as a proactive measure.

Don’t be stupid and naive. The entire tech industry is laying off people by the thousands with pending recession, why shouldn’t GF?
