Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Titles

Noticed that Oxy has the title “fellow” associated with people. Is this a new level? Are there any criteria for obtaining this title? Did it come from Anadarko? Speculating it is like a chief title.

Oxy is not Chevron. Don't try to rise to something you aren't even close too or pretend to be on a level you are not. You work at Oxy for a reason and its the same reason you don't work at Chevron.

OP may not work for Oxy. Yes. It is all part of the STEP program of favorites and people that get to publish, some. Principal and Fellow are two new steps in the ladder created to encourage people to stay in the technical track and gain proportional recognition to the managerial track. This is very close to Chevron’s approach. It is a good endeavour

All of the chiefs that I’ve met are regarded.

There is an internal STEP TeamSite that goes into deep detail on the program and career path for the different technical areas. Also gives a description of the associated titles.

From one of the trainings I was in. They said a "fellow" would be considered like equivalent to VP lvl in management but for an individual contributor level being that they're an expert of that field.

Not from APC. "Distinguished "was the top of the technical ladder. A subject matter expert recognized for their expertise both inside/outside company.
