Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

GF is dying company and this is result of many bad ongoing things

Being a former engineer, i can say that there is no culture in GF. They have been lucky to have experienced guys from IBM, charted and able to recruit engineers to work for them in inhuman conditions. There is no way to get promoted unless you know how to oil your management and this has created huge sh-t list of highly incompetent managers and directors. This is all going to show up on attrition as economy slows and stress builds shoe up in name of cost and survival cries.

Heard employees age 50 year and above are going to be key layoff targets and will be primary target throughout this year and next as they are equivalent to two new of less experienced employees. Idea is to create their back up and replace them with young and low cost employees. What the heck going on ?

I left GF last month. I am so happy I did man. This is place filled with terrible management and horrible practices. If you see the people who are staying long are there because they can not find job elsewhere. GF is black spot in foundry space and hope someone buys it and cleanses it from all bad executives and managers. I doubt GF will go very long in coming conditions as CEO will have hard time confusing Mubadala again to save his job again.

Being hear I can tell you .. it is terrible. Recently they promoted some managers to director and I can bet they are failed guys who will not find engineer job outside. They survive because of buttering, politics, connection, and licking ….. This has created such a big frustration among us. There is no place of merit in GF .. this has filled the place with mediocre management who could not leave the place. It used be better place but all the talent is either gone or planning to leave this year itself.

You are so correct, at least back in 2016 when I left Malta. In over 25 years in the industry, I never saw such incompetence, bu-t kissing to get anywhere. I saw so many incredible engineers and techs leave because managers didn't want to hear and face the truth!
Loved it when I learned the Hr could override you managers review and make it a lower rating. I was there from 2011 to 2016. Oh how I could go on.. To be perfectly honest, I do not know how it is now to work at fab 8.
