Aramco. Best employer according to Forbes.

Nice to see Saudi Aramco getting top spot among peers as best employer as documented by a recent Forbes survey. Also has a very good overall rank among all global companies. The company must be doing something right! I know not everyone will agree. But still worth noting to provide balance to many of the threads here. I enjoyed my career there and nice to see this positive rating in the Forbes survey.

Well, certainly is the best company to work in Saudi. That ranking is useless cause there is no any point of comparison possible. A real ranking of NOC in GCC will put first ADCO, second it by QATAR oil and third could be BAPCO or Aramco, considering locals and expats and specially the attrition index. Wish the best for Saudi, despite bad last years I have a wonderful experience working there.

From a survey and sample point of view, if the survey population was taken directly from employees at said company, and there is a 90 percent saudi employee rate, then naturally you will receive a high satisfaction score. It is also worth noting that most surveys are never anonymous so if employee rated badly, someone would know. You can't take these surveys seriously, there is always some kind of bias due to the the sample population.

In my old area turnover (post layoffs) was 11/13 in the last two years. That doesn't count a bunch of people who got transferred in from other departments and then transferred back. There was a couple of new hires, but those were hired elsewhere and dumped where they were needed. As far as I know, only one person was actually recruited for the job.

It is a total mess. This is very specialized work, and there is almost nobody to do it. Not sure if Senior management really cares. It's all for show anyway. Maybe they will just round up a bunch of yard guys in yellow jump suits.

Very good post regarding the methodology, and associated observations. Quite likely the majority of respondents were Saudi, as the survey is targeting expats in the various companies. It would be interesting to see what the voluntary turnover rate is (those who leave of their own accord). I seem to remember for expats it used to be well below 10% which compares very well to most companies and spectacularly well for an expat population in the Middle East. I worked for a good company before Aramco and voluntary turnover was over 75%. It was just normal. So the Aramco very low rate always struck me as being a very good indicator of a good company to work for. Maybe it’s much higher now, I don’t know.

It relies on surveys that start with something called an "online access panel". It looks like anyone can register for the panel, but actual participants are selected by a survey company in such a way that surveys are given only to a group of employees that broadly represent the workforce of the company being evaluated. The methodology slides show data for the ethnic makeup, age, contract type and skill level for survey respondents at the aggregate level, but not the company level. In other words, nothing is disclosed for Aramco in particular, but we can assume that the survey respondents for Aramco represent the company workforce overall. That would be mostly Saudis, mostly low and intermediate skill level, and mostly younger. Expats would probably represent only 10% of the respondents if Forbes is actually doing what it says it is doing.

If you are a young Saudi looking for training, then Aramco's high ranking in the Forbes Survey is probably relevant. Aramco is probably a good option for you relative to the alternatives available. If you are an expat, I can't imagine how this survey would be useful. Your experience, compensation and environment, relative to your alternatives, will be totally different than most of the people who took this survey.

Lol this is just comical. Social responsibility. Seriously? Literally the world’s largest polluting company.

Inclusion in the workplace. Haha. it’s the most nepotistic place this side of Suez…culturally hardwired to enable backhanders and family connections. Women…well how many are managers vs BP or Shell? It’s all men here…but wow they can drive now so all is ok.

Everyone knows employee survey is monitored for compliance, locals work in fear for their Jobs and are programmed from a young age to toe the line. It’s simply unreliable data and just presents inflated results, just like every other Aramco KPI. People cannot speak up even if they wanted to… Forbes have obviously taken it on face value without verification.
This is Just another part of the Aramco game show, it’s all style with no substance.

Well done Aramco. Nice to see this. From what I can see much of it is based on employee ratings so I guess there are lots of happy employees. Surely an organisation like Forbes can be relied on to be reputable. It’s been around 105 years and seems to publish a lot of good stuff. Were they paid off to publish this? Hardly. It’s not Qatar and the World Cup.

Apparently the score is based on firms that “excel in corporate impact and image, talent development, gender equality, and social responsibility”.

How on earth can Aramco be in the top 15% on any of those factors (beyond image which is just marketing BS), is beyond me.

Much less above its industry peers. The majors are decades ahead on CSI, equality and talent development.

Aramco are somewhere in the 1970s by comparison. How many women are VP level or above at Aramco???
Answer: ZERO.
