Just received word from my source at corporate that a storewide mandate will be taking effect in terms of hours. Wheels are still churning to outsource optical completely by summer 2023 to a 3rd party to reduce overhead costs.

Well, some of this is true. They cut hours for undesirable associates as an incentive to move yourself out. It’s not hard to understand. But, there’s no corporate policy to reduce hours. I think it comes down to this, if you do your job and you are not a dik, you’ll be fine. Otherwise, you might have your hours cut. It’s a way to thin the heard.
They’re not cutting hours, if your hours were reduced then it’s because they don’t think you’re a good fit in optical. That’s how they get rid of people in the field.
It’s true. I’m down to 24 hours a week now from 36. Been offered to apply for open positions on the floor to earn extra money to make up for the reduction.
This post quoting his or her "sources in Bentonville" is complete cr-p. Troll... you can do better next time
Meanwhile Costco pays their licensed opticians $40+ per hour. Costco also pays all of their staff (not just optical), overtime on the weekends, regardless of how many total hours you have for the week.
Such a grossly mismanaged part of the store, straight from above.
Tens of MILLIONS of dollars are left on the table from unused insurance frame allowances alone. The high end frames should be priced higher, in order to capture those $300/$400 frame allowances in full.
But no, “sell them a $31 second backup pair. That’ll do the trick.”
Sad really.
They were also supposed to make vcam positions and salary vcms believe it when I see it
