Re: PowerPoint Champ comment on segment marketing - every 5 years a new VP comes in and thinks it’s a new concept. What isn’t recognized is that the baseline sales performance metrics by segment are complete voodoo. 3M P&Ls are product specific, so unless you have SKUs that are exclusively sold into a certain segment, have distributors who provides consistent reliable POS by segment (highly unlikely), or a channel partner who only sells into a specific market segment, you end up with sales data and performance reporting that is fuzzy at best. Have personally seen this group report “wins” that are complete BS. Segment marketing is a good concept but only if you have internal reporting systems that can accurately measure results. Not happening. Just my opinion.

Many of the comments here make so much sense. A3M is internal focus. SAP is taking forever to complete - try to set up a new SKU. Digital only as a way to reach customers - we are not Facebook. Segment is disconnected from customers. Those work with customers are not rewarded. Who in 3M leadership has successfully started and grown a business? Then add in the new culture of fear - very hard to innovate and create when scared.

Very good point. Employees should love their company. But I make 80000/year, MR makes 17000000/year. I have to work 212 years to make same amount of money. So I should take same responsibility.
