Kudos to those who somehow fought for their right not to do additional workloads, but despite all my efforts, I did not succeed at it. It seems that leaving is the only way out of this situation for many of us...

I would never listen to somebody that refers to coworkers as “special needs.” GM has a horrible culture.
Watching people with barely any real responsibilities spend all their time on activities related to numerous affinity groups while the rest of the team puts in 10-12 hours per day to keep everything moving forward. GM leadership better wake up and get these sponges off the payroll. Ironically, those with “special needs” will probably be the last considered to be let go.
My 2 cents: The people that suck tend to get a lot less work. They get more mileage by baking cookies and volunteering for team events than doing hard work. You could try that...
As long as you stay hidden and remember people's pronouns you'll be fine.
So start to fail on your deliverables and start showing up for volunteer work. You might even get promoted. When in Rome.
