Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Life is much better after you leave UP

I'm visiting this forum now just out of habit, because I used to visit it often when I was working at UP.
I just want to tell everyone to start applying to see if anything bites, because everything is better after you leave UP. It's not ideal in the new company either, but it's incomparably better than it was here. I finally got some relief. If I stayed here, I would've just ended up with a bunch of health related issues.

Right with you buddy. Left a month ago. Work 8 to 10s Tuesday to Saturday during the day. Off whenever I need/want to be. And make similar money at a family owned company. There is life outside the railroad. UP su cks

Better get an estimate from RRB about your retirement $ before you quit. We pay more than 2X into RRB retirement fund than what people pay into Social Security, so this makes RRB retirement $ much more than SSI .

It true! It was a big leap for me to leave the railroad but I’m sooooo glad I did. The grass in greener on the other side. When I hired on with my current employer they were incredibly simpathetic that I had to deal with the railroad lifestyle for so long. Couldn’t be in a better place in my life right now. For the longest time I would just watch people retire for the railroad and croak a few month later. The stress just ki--s your body and spirt. Don’t do it to yourself, you have the power just leave.

It's the best thing I've ever done. UP manages to brainwash you into thinking that the retirement is awesome. It's not..... I had 17 yrs. with UP. 8 more years of bs. NOT FOR ME. My new job, I work a regular 8 hr. dayshift in an indoor setting. A/C in the summer and heater in the winter. So much better. Coworkers are great. No toxic vibes. Manager's don't lie in your face like UP. Pay is close. Medical is way better. I'm not treated like a slave. Leave if you're miserable. Or stay, work everyday, no family time, terrible shift and hours, no weekends off, sancho sneaking in and out of your house.

I just go out on medical or stress twice a year. Since they don't give me days I request off.

I left UP and joined the band. I’m the bass player for Mike Ockballs & the Lot Lizards.

If I get 240 months will stress qualify for a railroad occupational disability? Seriously I feel like I am living in he-l working non stop and not being able to lay off when I’m tired and stressed out. I’m stuck and feel that this place is making me lose my sanity. Seriously

I bet you wish you stayed to get this big back pay! I go out on medical or stress leave every year aka vacation since they work me to death. That's the only way to make it at UP.
