Thread regarding 3M layoffs

There's not much to lose if we're laid off

Are you going to miss the toxic culture, outdated technology, useless management, constant fear of losing your job, insulting raises, nepotism, lack of advancement opportunities, total lack of respect for employees, and so many other similar "qualities" 3M has to offer? Didn't think so.

McKnight would be sick to his stomach if he saw how people were being treated during these years of layoffs.

I'm retired now but remember how cr---y I felt when I found out that someone who worked for me was to be let go. Although I agreed that the person was the best choice to be released on the team, I had many lousy nights (I found out 6 weeks ahead of time but was told that all of the layoffs would happen the first week of December.

Real leaders, even when they are put in a bad position, find ways to not mock or insult the released employee. Thankfully, I had many positive and professional leaders in my career who I could model. They too had the displeasure of letting people go. It stinks period.

Take care all who are being released or are worried about it. Love your friends, family, pets, and be nice to all you see.

3M is a cesspool. Swim away, shower, and move on.

I would not miss 3M. I've not had a good manager for 10 years - and rarely one that cares, provides good guidance, and actively works to build the health of her/his team and organization.

3M is becoming internally focused with internal metrics that do very little to drive the business or satisfy customers.

I've never seen a customer buy a product because you had a good ppt.

as someone who has been promoted albeit through good people leaving , I can honestly say I was not the best person for the job, but if you are not in you don't win, yes it is true nepotism does burn brightly but what is wrong with working with your best mates or family getting a few dollars more.
