Thread regarding 3M layoffs

Frustrated by the hiring process

It has been a while since the last time I was looking for a job, but I can't believe how much things have changed. Why in the world does a company need four or five interviews to determine whether you are a good fit for them? Fifteen years ago, it was one, maybe two interviews and you'd know if you were hired or not. What's the point of dragging it out and wasting both their and my time with endless interviews? What do they think they'll find out that they couldn't have asked in the first two?

I had 3 rounds of interviews and 4 months before getting hired at 3M in 2019. Most of that time was spent waiting for a hiring freeze to be lifted, and for a reorg to settle. Turns out I should've taken that as a sign as that's happening again.

3m has an paralysis by analysis mindset. Always thinking and thinking and thinking again but never can make the move. You aren't alone in your frustration. The only thing they do without much analysis is cut and cut again

Specifically to 3M ... the company is experiencing serious financial issues, such as PFAS (chemicals illegally put in the ground), 230K lawsuits filed by military members in the light of 3M and their wholly owned subsidiary Aearo Technologies LLC providing faulty earplugs, and overall mismanagement of revenue. Additionally, layoffs are in full swing again this year at 3M. We've seen the tactic of stringing along candidates in hopes the company economic picture will improve and they will be permitted to hire. Finally, the 3M bureaucracy is vast and stifling to anyone who joins the firm. Layer upon layer is the norm. Worked in the 80's, but obsolete now.
