I worked for BBB for 4 years as an Assistant Manager. I was laid off shortly after the re-opening from the Covid closures, during the first round of layoffs 2 years ago. I was honestly very scared about losing my job. Since companies were still struggling coming out of Covid closures, it took me about 4 months to find a new job. I had to sell many collectibles and other possessions just to pay bills. Covid assistance programs helped me pay my rent for a couple months. I was really worried about my future.
Then, I got a job offer from an owner of a local franchise store of a big shipping company. The starting pay was okay, but not what I was making before. However, he offered me unlimited overtime and promised to make me a manager as soon as something opened up. Within 3 months, I was a manager at one of his stores (he owns 5). Since that time (less than 2 years), I have received 2 significant pay increases, a yearly bonus, and he just offered me a substantial “retention bonus” if I stay with him until 2024!
Now, I am making significantly more than I made at BBB (in less than 2 years), and I am out of work by 6:30 everyday! I work more hours, but I have never been afraid of working a lot. I feel more appreciated and enjoy my job more than I ever did at BBB. My partner and I can actually afford to do things on our days off!
Don’t give up hope guys and gals. There is life outside of BBB. Struggles only make a person stronger if you know how to work through them. I worked with a lot of great people in my BBB store, and I HOPE they see the “writing on the walls” and get out now…I wish them only the best!
