Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

Anyone else get told over the phone?

They couldn't even be human for a minute and sit me down face to face. They had a store manager from another store call me and then fax me over the paper. We have been nothing but numbers to them after we've put blood, sweat, tears into their business and they can't even have the decency to tell me to my face. Well good luck with receiving. I'm the only one in the building that knows anything with operations. You already fired or pushed out everyone else that knew. You played yourself BBB. You'll be closing all your doors sooner than you think. Good riddance.

@vci. You are correct. Direct deposit does satisfy the California Labor Law requirement at termination.

In CA, while they have to receive their last paycheck that day, it doesn’t have to be handed to them. It can be by direct deposit. There is nothing that requires it to be done in person.

In California you never fire someone over the phone because California Labor Law mandates that you physically hand the employee his final paycheck at termination.

Can any of you Ru-p people explain to me how BBBY was woke when the old folks who ran the company in 2016 contributed to his campaign? That was almost as embarrassing as charging 49 bucks for a cr---y pillow. You delude yourselves with your gullibility.

OP.
I've been the receiver for 9 years and know it like that back of my hand. I haven't had help in 4 years. It's been just me receiving, damages, CDS, 5S, ordering. We have no operations supervisor. I'm it. And as of Friday at 5p, they will be left on their own. I feel bad for the five employees that will be left in a store they aren't closing, but I will not be giving one more second to this company. I feel liberated.

i got a face to face at the end of the day; thankfully i have….or i guess now had, a good store manager to humanize it, but the paper copy is f@ck!ng insulting….also another receiver, and i feel bad for my ops key that now has to figure out how to handle receiving, fulfillment, and damages with the skeleton crew they already have

and that’s the crappiest part, they’re letting us go like unnecessary expenses, but even after now having to figure out what comes next, i still care enough to feel bad for my co workers…..but hey, i’m sure they’ll find plenty of part timers willing to work 15 hours a week for 3 or 4 less an hour then EVERYWHERE ELSE that care that much

Its a no win situation for BBBY. They call you so you hear it from them and not someone else. If they didnt call and you heard it from someone else, that wiukd be worse. If they called you in on your day of to tell you face to face, that sucks to.

In this situation, all conversations need to be had in the same day to "rip the bandaid off" and allow stores to move on.
