Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

MS is a weasel

He was totally dismissive about a layoff question at the town hall a few days ago knowing full well what was to go down this week. What a horrible human being. Sociopath narcissist 100%

This is going to sound mean and ruthless but he must actually be a nice guy. Have you seen his wife?

@pdj+1ivbhbw5 I respect that opinion and can see the argument, but I think that’s unrealistic in reality. We’re past this phase of completely objective capitalism, companies are held to a higher standard across the board, and that includes how they treat their employees, their environmental impact, etc. TMO, who has been yelling from the rooftops about job growth and being a top X place to work, has been laying off people across the board for years now - many times a year or less after a team was stood up. In 2022 I hood people and leadership to a higher standard. It’s a function of MS and the three stooges not being able to develop consistent, lasting strategy whatsoever - with zero care about the impacts on individuals. There is a stark difference is strategically pivoting (which may impact an org or channel deeply) versus laying off people across the board. When you do it like this you’re essentially opening admitting you’ve failed in the C-Suite. Economic shifts won’t have large impacts on TMO’s business, not at this level. It’s an ant farm that they shake up to start over every 6 months to a year, and we (the ants) are the ones impacted.

@1ukz+1ivbhbw5 Marcus East cut 200+ people last week. DeLuca cut a bunch the week before (including a few on his leadership team). They're not going under the radar.

Unfortunately, I've had to work with/under him for years at three different companies. He is a complete jerk, but ultimately, he is making the right decision(s). We have been too fat for years. I'm just frustrated that some fat orgs go under the radar, in particular East and DeLuca orgs.

Sadly, it's not about the working levels, it's a simple fact leadership in those orgs can't run a tight ship and have bloated up since pre-merger. So please don't downvote if you're in either of those orgs - it's your leaders, not you.

SMRA is the only growth initiative on track. Look at TFB for failure. Nothing happening in the Enterprise space.

@wko+1ivbhbw5 Wholeheartedly disagree. Sorry, no public company in today's capitalist society is responsible for the livelihood of it's employees, nor will they make decisions based on that. They'll give severance to help lessen the blow.

Also, those who have made the company successful in the past were rewarded through their income, stock, and bonuses. It doesn't mean they're tenured into a role forever.

I don't agree with it, but it's the harsh reality.

Whoever made this first reply is insane. Not personal? Obviously no one (or at least the vast majority) impacted was personally responsible for their layoff. However, TMO made commitments and hired/promoted these individuals. They are completely responsible for the livelihood of these employees. The contrast of ‘marketing’ coat savings and record breaking profits and the reality is too much of a divide to make any sense. There are more L07s in the field sales team than ever before, while that entire org underperforms despite being supported with a continuous stream of free (or close to it) promotions. The SMRA strategy is a joke and continues to struggle. Directors, VPs, and the C-Suite continue to get paid with increased incentives (TMO’s CEO was top 10 overpaid for gods sake). The company is a train wreck and these layoffs are absolutely personal in the sense that leadership is failing those that made this company successful up to this point.

He was asked in another meeting about two weeks ago "why is tmobile laying off so many ppl while also reporting record profits?" and MS flat out said "we have to make some cuts in order to keep those record profits." he is a total POS.

But he tells such an endearing story about his Happy Face Magenta shirt and sheds a tear. He's got so much empathy. 😭

There's a reason why MS was the only telecom CEO to make the top 10 list of overpaid CEO's. Can't stand to look at his face, I even made a rule in outlook to trash his emails a while back lol. ZERO respect for that person.

BS, Mike. Record breaking quarter after record breaking quarter. This is about running as cheap as possible now that we've reached our goal of a merger with a major carrier. It's cost cutting 101 right out of Sprint's playbook that ruined their company. Layoff and outsource. It all for the shareholders and executives. NTWs, outsourced IT, MIT, it's all about dumping as many employees as possible.

Guys, it’s business. Don’t take it personal. If we don’t make the necessary adjustments we will not have the ability to provide best in class service plans, coverage, to take market share from the dinosaurs. You think ATT or Vz are any better, go to them. You don’t belong here. You think our processes are bad, it takes them 24-36 months of planning and IT work to do what we can accomplish in 8-12 months. You should know that our cost realignment is more than trimming opex. We are going after our vendors in a big way to adjust to a tightening market. Layoffs suck. We can all agree on that.
