Even bright yellow paint is not gonna be seen in the dark. Why isnt maintenance of way under the hours of service law? (only truck drivers are?) Why is it okay for guys to go on duty at 5am and work non stop in triple digit temps and still be working in the dark at 9pm? Why did the corridor, disp, and manager acting as YM instruct a train to shove into a track that was out of service? Hitting that derail ki---d a conductor, but it also might have saved multiple track men who were still out there working, in the dark. Company still wants to argue that there are enough employees. If a work group cant come to work, have a meeting, start a task, take normal bathroom and lunch breaks, then successfully finish the task all within 8 hours. Then there arent enough people for that task. I watch these guys work over 24hrs straight, non stop at derailments. That is unethical. Meanwhile the contractor rj corman is paid just to be available? Take the money paid to rj corman and hire some more track maintenance guys so they can MAINTAIN the tracks and eliminate a lot of these derailments. Many hands make light work.

How was the bright yellow derail missed? They're painted bright yellow for a very good reason. It's sad that yet another railroad worker had to lose their life, for a company that seems to care very little for its own workers.

A conductor died protecting a shove, when the shove went over a temporary derail the car fell over and crushed the conductor. Still dont know whose head(s) wasnt in the game, but guys please be careful. We can always get other jobs, but never another life.
