No matter how much I work and how well I do my job, my manager is always there to criticize me. He doesn't do it to get me to work better, he simply does everything he can to make me feel worthless. I really need this job, but I'm sick of this person. Does anyone have any advice or wisdom on how to deal with obvious animosity from the manager?

I completely understand. The managers at my store are like that too. It’s funny because they want to ask you what you’ve been doing but they are literally sitting on their butts doing nothing. Had it happen to me yesterday. Frankly, I don’t care what they think about me or what they think I’m doing wrong. I honestly don’t even understand how Belk is still open. If I were you I would just look for something else because corporate probably won’t care.
You’re the sensitive type huh?
Take everything personally?
Maybe you whine too much…
Ask yourself if you think it falls within Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. Document, then take the next steps with HR.
Ask him to put it in writing if he has a problem with you. Then you can keep a record of the issues he raises. Hopefully you can show that you are doing your job at least as well as your co-workers are. It's just a means of protecting yourself. Or find another job or maybe transfer to another dept as an alternative to having to be on guard all the time.
Tell him that if he does not leave you alone, you are going to tell corporate that he forced you to give him a handy J in the stock room, that should set him straight.
