I was hired in 2022. Now I am worried I may be the last in first out if at all a layoff happens. Ford just fired newbies just to avoid age discrimination charges.

They will hire an excess of workers well under 40 (40 is where the federally protected age class starts under ADEA). The excess "under-40" headcount will be targeted for dismissal, so the older, higher paid worker can be eliminated without risk of an age-related lawsuit against GM.

They guy who didn't know - It's awkward and sick but also kind of funny. He was a flaw in their watertight system.
The companies that call on the weekend and/or do sneaky things like invite people to a meeting promising something exciting only to do mass layoffs - they think the survivors won't think too much about it but they remain resentful and fully aware that there's no loyalty whatsoever. Also, the people they casually hire/fire usually come back in some form... then what? Do they expect them to be loyal, hard-working workers? Broken system.
Take action and find a new job. It’s a lot nicer than being unemployed with bills.
Why are you scared? If you have skills you will be fine. If you're anxious, take action, ensure you will always have the skills you need to find work.
Could be if your a token hire there for a specific purpose.. Usually they hire newer talent and with enough time, kick the people they want replaced, in exchange for these hires. But I’ve also seen the newbies get hired and fired in only a matter of a few short months.
I recall in 2019 there were a dozen token newer hires in our group, and some were only a few weeks green. All gone, along with many others at GM. One dudes contract house forgot to do the call on Sat thing, not to come in on Monday. So he shows on Monday, only to get the call while in the bathroom. House rep said why are you there on-site? All his stuff was seized and he had to be escorted out.
