Thread regarding Ford layoffs

What I am most frustrated about

I am most angry with myself for trusting the manager who assured us on several occasions that we could feel safe. Maybe he did it on purpose, or maybe he really meant it, but that's less important now. My advice is not to trust them at all!

Coworker who got cut texted his supervisor to let her know he got cut. She never replied to his text. She did read it though. Shows you just how scummy some people are. Her whole team now knows what a POS she is.

I know two LL6's that are off on vacation the same week the hammer came down? Coincidence? More than likely not. What is not clear is what the criteria was to target the affected? Being classified HTHD was no shield; or turned out to be a reason?

Managers may not even know. When this happened to GM, it was employees, managers, and directors. Poof, gone. No one was safe.

@tcj+1iphJuto I am an LL6 in Model e. Started the year with 4 analysts, lost 1 in April, 2 just now. Had no idea it was even happening, until I got the panicked phone calls from the employees themselves. Throughout the week, I've been getting calls from other employees who knew these guys and are expressing their sympathies. The company underestimates how hard this is on us - outside of all of the work that has been lost / dumped, I am trying to manage all the incoming phone calls and emails from survivors who feel guilt, as well as the occasional call from the cut employee himself. It is a really sh***y situation and I am beyond irritated at what the company had done.

I definitely don't think anybody at the LL6 level had any clue what would/wouldn't happen. I honestly doubt anybody below LL3 knew much since the layoffs affected at least LL4s.

Your manager was probably just trying to be positive and comforting, but should not have really said as much as they did because they probably didn't really know.

I suspect that the LL6 people leaders are being left out of the loop. The "selection process" is done algorithmically looking at age, years of service, salary, how much in your SSIP, etc. Some LL4 or LL3 is deciding these cuts then telling those below to "get it done".

On a Friday back in December 2020, I was given an assignment by my manager that he said was critical and would take a year to complete.
That night at 8:00 pm I received a phone call from my agency informing me that I was done at Ford, effective immediately.
I was one of around 200 agency folks let go that day.
So, you are right not to trust them.
Either immediate management is complicit, or they have no idea what is going on.
Either way...
