Bringing department back after it went GBS ?

My department was let go this time last year. Now I see a post all over LinkedIn,Glassdoor, indeed of “Fleet Accounts Payable Manager” . This person will hire ten people (the exact amount in the USA that were let go) and manage them and GBS hand in hand. What was the point of outsourcing, severance packages, retention bonus if you’re bringing back the department?

Yep, I was in that Fleet Payables team. Luckily I was able to find another role before the end date. But crazy how they are bringing it back after they see it was a disaster move.

GBS drives a lot of savings. The costs are hidden. Shifting more admin work caused by the deterioration of support quality frustrates our customers and workforce. Costs will be loss of share, customer dissatisfaction, and sales field turnover. It will be a nasty cycle that we will muddle through as we do with most practices.
Amazon and other companies now lead with let us do what is best for the customer. Pepsi tags onto buzz phrases, but they have no capability, or seriousness, to execute this type of consumer centric behavior. Many other companies are in the same boat. As employees realize company goals have no support, it gives rise to quiet quitting type efforts.
