My experience is that those who complain the most are precisely those who are too lazy to polish their resumes and try to get something better. I can't believe that someone who really tries to find a better job can't get anything better. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Why polish up the resume when we have the company by the ovaries?
@1jsg Thanks for the sermon, but keep it to yourself. Maybe you should have some coffee and cookies to brighten your day. Sounds like you need it!
Anyone ever hear of prophesy fulfilling itself? If you believe there are no options, there will be no options. If you believe you are a servant, you'll be a servant. All that aside, just ignore the chatter and noise, polish the resume, keep your eyes open, think outside the box and in the meantime do your job. Being miserable is in fact a choice 95% of the time.
Are you aware of every location where the UP operates? Guess what? A lot of them are in fact in the middle of nowhere!! I'm sure there's better jobs for those that you assume are lazy. Try asking them how far they would have to drive to get to that better job, instead of just assuming they're lazy. Have you seen the price of gas and diesel lately?
There might be other jobs but UP has the best and most fat hot dogs.
Hey OP, think you forgot this website is for Union Pacific employees, duh.
The yard I work in can’t keep the new guys around. You could give some of these guys a 50% pay raise and most I believe would still quit. I hear complaints about the difficulty of the work, weather, walking, climbing, attendance, poor moral, etc.
Unfortunately UP locates in towns where they are the major employer, so UP is in North Platte Nebraska and the town is shackled to them. Until another large business sets up here and give people options, thats it. That's how UP operates. You are an indentured servant to them.
