Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Quality is not fixed by paying for customer repairs

I think Ford lost sight that hard work and smart engineering would fix quality. They were too focused on the new campus and train station and what kind of grass and shrubs to plant. Quality is not fixed by paying for customer repairs. The feedback loop was under construction and these new EVs have a lot of the lacking quality DNA.

What you missing is that these companies are ran by short time MBAs.
They stay for 24 to 48 month and move on.
The are here for "cost cut" they only care for the 36 months the are in the game.
Of the ship goes to crash after that they don't care.
That is what they teach the in MBA schools.
Look at best inovatve companies in the world are they being run by accountants and MBAs no. Was Steve Jobs a MBA guy no did he move every 36 months no.
Ford needs management that is going to stay around and pland for both short term and long term.
You do not have sch managers at all.
Every one I know at for has a plan A and plan B is to stay at Ford.
What kind of org is that.

Ford wants to demand everyone use CAE instead of real vehicle prototypes, but Ford management doesn’t fund the activities which enable/support CAE sufficiently to make this successful.
The idea that simulations are “free” is only true if you have sufficient fidelity in your models and accurate/reliable input data. This still requires human involvement, more than is funded today. Garbage in = garbage out.

More prototype testing, please. D&R here, real data > CAE.

FORD is asking suppliers to do all virtual simulation with no tests (FORD is not going to pay for tests). I say most suppliers can do that when a single F150 in launched without any RLDA. That day has not yet arrived. May never come. Some say BOEING is doing all virtual. I say BOEING may do but FORD can't.

Getting rid of real-life vehicle tests to validate designs and engineering is one of the top reasons for the lousy quality.

Customers are now our durabilty test drivers and validation.

Just MHO, cae is a great tool, but far too many eggs are put in that basket.
