Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Cisco UK Attrition & LR

Enormous attrition among SE/SA teams in Cisco UK. Tons of people moving either internally or leaving Cisco completely. Are these people leaving willingly or is there stealth LR going on? Nothing announced.

@1poy+1icGE5Nz " The good news is that, for competent SE/SAs there are plenty of jobs out there.
If I was UK leadership though, what I’d be particularly concerned about is the number of senior and highly qualified people deciding to leave. "

Wise words. A while back there were posts here about Cisco UK management telling people that they will promote based on manager's priority and not performance. That, if true, must be so demotivating for the work force. People who are good will always have options. Professional respect in the work place is so important.

Cheaper to operate and hire more staff in India over UK mates.

General UK management is largely uninspiring if not incompetent, especially after PG departed in July of 2021. Leaders with any true leadership skills departed during the purge of 2020-2021 - left, or "retired" ,or pushed out.

It goes back further than that. Things got stale under PS, we became too reliant on PubSec and FinServ keeping UKI afloat. When he ‘retired’, but stayed on as chairman, SG was appointed. I think SG could have made significant changes then but was unable to because PS was still looking over his shoulder. By the time PS properly retired it was too late for SG and, although he did get rid of the old guard, his Woke approach meant he was pushed out. Thinking about it, CD’s approach when he was in UKI has also cast a long shadow.

The entire UK SE management chain is certainly thoroughly toxic. Has been for a while but has deteriorated significantly to its lowest point during the last couple of years. Being led by narcissism and zero business acumen.

Definitely some truth in that. Although it’s not unique to UKI there’s little, or no, career progression in the SE/SA role. Job satisfaction is down because they are being pushed to be mini-AMs and not using their technical skills. (That said, I’d observe that there has been a significant degradation of those skills over the last 10-15 years.)

If you want to stay technical/hands-on the best opportunities are in partner land, consulting, or end-customer. The good news is that, for competent SE/SAs there are plenty of jobs out there.

If I was UK leadership though, what I’d be particularly concerned about is the number of senior and highly qualified people deciding to leave. With them gone, who is there to mentor the next generation coming through? It becomes a downward spiral.

I still thought that finding new jobs in this market indicated by the rate of departures would be difficult. I guess the previous poster is right. Good people always find places to move to. They don't have to stay back in the cesspool of lies, politics and self-conceited narratives.

With persistent supply chain challenges, a recession of over 1 year predicted in a shrinking UK economy, LRs are just around the corner. I hear numbers this quarter are blow-out but what matters is the guidance. And then the recession bites. No wonder good people are moving. They always can, as opposed to the precipitates left behind at the mercy of a handful of people running their little fiefdom in UK.

I think it's the people who can find jobs easily and not willing to put up with the cr-p ...the ones that stay are the dead wood most of the time who can't find roles elsewhere....
