Severance while Pregnant

I am planning to have a kid. If I am pregnant when the layoff happens, e.g. in Nov. Will I get an extra severance package besides the standard one-week * years of service?

If they do it like VMware does, you will be terminated the day after your maternity leave ends. You will be paid out anything owed to you in a lump sum rather than a salary continuance that other people might get in lieu of notice.

Broadcom has let go a TON of people over the years. Do you really think they don’t know what is legal and illegal? If you somehow think they would do something illegal, you definitely need to be let go because you are an id--t. They follow the law with all terminations.

As long as you are willing to have your baby at the office, not the hospital, (all hospital births must be approved by Hock personally), and your baby is born coding, and can work alongside you, then and only then, you might not get laid off.

Close date: someone says "chill" it won't "complete" until Nov 2023. Complete is a great word - It's going to have major impacts on our lives well before Nov 2023. It's going to start promptly in Nov 2022, heads will start rolling Nov/Dec 2022. If there's a glimmer of charity and compassion it will start in Jan 2023 - Mostly for taxes reasons for me personally - and the Holidays and that cr-p.

You guys are providing bad information. It is not illegal to fire a pregnant woman. It is illegal to fire her because she is pregnant, I hope you see and understand the difference. That will not be the case here when so many people will be laid off. They may let you finish your maternity leave and then terminate your employment when the leave ends. You can’t take a year off though, and delay the action. They may also have your severance run concurrent with your maternity leave, but I really hope they are not that awful.

If you are ? Better hurry to cash in on that. Extra severance! Just magical cash from shareholders. Entitlement. Oye.

Most folk still appear to be getting their timelines wrong. Nothing will happen this year. The aim is the complete the transaction by the start of November next year. It could happen before, but not by November this year. Chill.

You cannot be fired while in maternity leave, even if a mass layoff. Though you can be fired right after returning from leave if the position is identified as redundant and decided to be closed.
Congrats on your new family arrival!

A pregnant woman is the most protected species on earth from an employment perspective.

You're in the safest position of anyone in VMW

They cannot layoff when you on maternity leave. Take max leave and make use of it.

Talk to HR and your manager or director. Change groups or extended maternity leave.

I may be wrong but check all the options.
