Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

Once the best employees now work as little as possible

Management really has a special talent to demotivate employees. Colleagues who were once very enthusiastic about their work, now do the bare minimum. Totally understandable because morale is zero. I kind of feel sorry for all those who still hope that their work will be valued here. When did you decide that it was not worth the effort and started doing only the most necessary things?

I can’t recall the exact date but one day after learning that even though I am the more tenured person in the team and pretty much trained everyone who came after me…that no matter how hard I worked and how dedicated I was to the team, I was the one being left behind with false promises that a raise in grade and salary would come soon. It came but for those who came after, never for me. Above & Beyond all these years for what? The phrase “that’s above my pay grade” is all they’ve been getting out of me and will continue to until I am home.

Or Tuesday, maybe even Wednesday. The get out of jail free statement is, "I had IT issues". No one can ever deny that you have IT issues at AIG at least a few times a week.

Sorry, I wasn't able to connect to the network and was on with help desk all day. That's the winner right there!

Yes. Do the bare minimum at work, but take advantage of the spare time to improve yourself as to not get left behind. Update your skills. This is especially true in IT.

Improve your health. Anything that is "urgent" on a Friday afternoon can more than likely can wait till Monday.

Agreed, only people left that ‘care’ are below average employees who see an opportunity to ‘move up’ by showing their undying loyalty since they have no other real opportunities outside of AIG.

It is all about nepotism at this point. Skill and experience are meaningless so no point in working hard unless you are working hard to kiss a$$. Some people are willing to sell their sole for a job ay AIG. LOL, you have pretty low self-esteem to do that, but see it everyday. Kinda funny and sad to watch.

Why would anyone work hard anymore? Even the above & beyond review would not even matter anymore. The one that got promoted & saved in the recent massive layoff are those who friends with the executives and those brown noses. The past few years, the culture became toxic and I don’t see it gets any better. Anyone with moral & integrity should leave this company unless you’re one of the executives’ cronies.

About 2 years ago after being above and beyond for many years. If you do the absolute minimum, you can get it down to a nice part time gig. You just have to be careful that the world doesn't pass you by while you are coasting. I will be moving on soon so just riding the wave for now and enjoying the good life until Q1 2023. One more sti and I am down the road and never looking back. If it happens sooner that's okay too. Get a plan and be ready. Your life is a whole lot better if you do.

But if you are an underachiever this company is for you! You could potentially do almost nothing until you are outsourced.

Cheers!
