Well, OP was right just timing is not. It is indeed massive cut.
Poor Q3 earnings call, HP campuses drying up everywhere, a large aquisition that cost HP a fortune, CWs being furloughed, entire organizations going away. Does anyone really think that this is going to end well for full-time HP employees? WFRs are definitely on the way, get ready.
There's was hint that new rounds of cost cutting/reorg coming during the results call and will be shared during investor day. Original plan was to share some % of cuts, but was changed last minute as lots of uncertainty about targeted cuts vs bottom up cut gap.
Here it is, Sept 6th and no "massive" layoff. This thread did not age well.
It's easier to get of CW and bosses tend to look after long time FTE. However, I agree, neither CW or FTE are safe. Always good to keep resume up to date. Good luck HP buddies.
From ex HP.
Does not matter if you’re a CW or a FTE, no one’s job is currently safe this Fall.
I beg to differ.........
HP employees go before CW's do. CW's are cheaper because of no benefits paid. As a CW myself, there was no furlough last year, in fact none for the last 2 years. The furlough in July and coming up in Sept are the first in 2 years.
The last round of HP layoffs - employees were given the option of early retirement with extra benefits. I know of several, my former boss included, that took that option.
Contractors will be our human shields before they will touch us. This is just my speculation but I think there will be more furloughs for contractors after September. Remember last year there was one around Christmas time? That's probably going to happen again.
That's the only trick this pony has. I.e wfr. Had been using this trick for many many years, way before others catch up. Won't likely to miss out the chance to take the lead here again putting them ahead of other IT companies in terms of layoff
Lots of IT companies have been doing layoffs this summer, so if this comment is legit we could be in for a world of hurt coming up this Fall. We all know that HP has never been hesitant to doing WFRs.
Thanks for heads, up, Enrique.
