How easy is it for you to coast at work and not get any real work done? I find that I feel guilt for doing this, but then I wonder how many other people are doing the same thing? Now we have a pinball machine to distract, making this an even easier task. Is this a systemic problem or just a slow period in my role?

EVERYTHING is a check the box exercise now. Long gone are the days of setting performance goals and then achieving them or not and being evaluated on that basis. Now it’s all about the optics and metrics and making sure the correct demographics and hot button topics have been addressed and accounted for. Our main commodity is smoke and mirrors, not oil and gas.
Not to mention a 'goal season' that lasts from March to October. How can you even have Q3 check-in when end of year goal discussions are also to happen in October? So in reality, we don't have Q1 checkin bcz goals have only been in place for 1 month of less. Then we have legit Q2 checkin. Then no Q3 checkin and EoY in October. Seems more like a check the box type of activity then an actual gauge of performance.
That's all there is to do. Otherwise like Karl said, be penalized for pushing for better (faster, cheaper, more efficient)
Evolve forced more coasting!
Coasting is easy and safe. It’s the people who actually try to do something that get penalized. Inertia reigns supreme.
As a shareholder of this company hope you all get sh1tcanned. Get back to work and make me some money !!!
Coast...we do that all the time in Alaska.
I scour the hallways for wrongthink cartoons or memes on office walls, eavesdrop on maltolerant conversations and report them to the harassment hotline. Everyone's terrified of me and pretends to like me. Life is good, no work required.
Or the coffee shop “meetings” all afternoon.
Nothing has changed since the days of Larry the Lounge Lizard.
I have not time to coast. I’m in meetings or some sort of awareness training all day every day.
Come to think of it, I have no time to work either.
Tell us your name, we will find something for you to do.
Where’s the pinball machine? I’m getting tired of playing Mine Sweeper on my computer.
