Thread regarding VMware layoffs

How long will you hold on for?

I work in EMEA PS in the field, before the BC take over announcement things were toxic and most of my team were looking outside of vmware. When the BC news broke most people stopped looking in the hope they'll get laid off by Christmas 2022 with a fat cheque in their pocket. The latest unofficial update on an all hands this week was the takeover is not going to happen before next autumn, this has triggered a lot of people to start looking for jobs again.

If you're holding out for a payoff how long are you going to stay? I'm 54 and have 12 years service and can't decide if it's worth another year of sh-t.

In Tanzu Labs and almost at the 2 year mark. I want to hold out as long as I can but I'm concerned we'll be spun off with no severance.

Haven't really started looking since I'm making good money atm.

I heard it might happen in the Spring (not autumn). Not sure if that changes things and you can hold on a little longer.

Next autumn? Did not hear that. Seems very unlikely it will take quite that long. But if it does, then I think we'll see attrition seriously ramp up. Everybody is prepping for interviews even if they don't want to leave, as a defensive measure. At some point everyone will finish prepping, and it will be increasingly hard not to use those skills while they are fresh.

49 and 2.5 years. I plan on saying till they fire me or keep me. I'm on the product side, so I am not as worried as some the PS folks might be about just getting sold off.

Either way. I got RSUs vesting and want as many of those to vest as possible just to get more $ in my safety net.

Keep in mind that if Broadcom will sell/transfer PSO to HCL you will be in a worse condition without receiving any severance.

54 and 6 years here. Not leaving. It's not any worse than my time in the army. As long as vmware pays me to dance, I'll dance.

Leaving in a month, barely more than a year in VMW, thankfully I got a great offer so I couldn’t refuse.
