I hate not knowing if my store is closing and I hate that I'll have to wait for who knows how long to find out. Our managers are claiming that they don't know anything either, so they're no help in alleviating our worry. For the life of me, I can't figure out the point of dragging this out.

ST Mgr here. We do not know our store is closing until last minute. I received
my call the evening before our liquidation started.
Why are you so worried though? Unless you are full time with benefits ( any non mgr ft left??) then EVERY other retail operation has exact same work you are doing and openings at each of them. You are lucky in that regard in that your job is an easy lateral move. Either wait it out until the end, and then move in a matter of days, or do the same at ANY time between now and then.
The managers for sure don’t know. The y don’t release that information until very late in the process.
And there is part of the problem, wpv. How many times has this place said it was going to "plot a new course" and never followed through on it? MT did the same thing. Wall St. cannot depend on them to stay on a new bearing. The head of this place seem to be content with making you forget last year's BIG PLANS when they fail. It would be better for employees to be elsewhere than to be kept in purgatory. They know by now the same song and dance/dog and pony show will come up with a new CEO next year anyway.
They are dragging it out because it would look bad if they closed everything at once on the resumes of the corporate pretenders. Even if they may end up doing that. They are trying to find exits.
It is a very simple answer. The managers in the store do not know if their store is closing. As soon as they found out the have to tell the crew. Why you do not know what store are closing is easy also. The ones that are deemed underperforming are being negotiated with landlords to alleviate rental rates. If you remember correctly mt said 200 and there was not that many closed. That is an approximate number.
