Just wondering how he was ever considered for the top job of a premier company. Did anyone here.ever work for or with him?

Boy Scout my foot… the man is a mess.
The organization known as “The Boy Scouts of America” ain’t what it used to be.
Probably he was good as a boy scout. Not entirely sure though, but most likely.
Passable work history. Also wasn’t Vale part of the group on the aaero deal ?
RED - complete disaster, naive thinking although the GMs that followed were far worse, including one that was fired
- Has used the same "playbook" to run 3M as he used when he played football for the UW Stevens Point in the late 1970s.
- Every business he touches will turn into "Gold"
So far sounds like:
- Good guy as a person
- Never stayed in a job long enough to be held accountable (until now, but he's not being held accountable but has enough time as CEO to prove he is incompetent)
- There must have been someone better for the job but Inge's ego must have gotten in the way so he appointed someone he knew would make him look like a god.
Another chapter in MR's history. Before Renewable Energy Division - he came into Optical Systems Division in 2008, to fix a industry down turn, That division is now known as Display Materials Division. He relocated to Korea, ignored the divisions prior successes which lead 3M sales and profits over a decade, set a new course of action, left in less than one year, before being held accountable for his decisions and moved in RED. Thank god, DMSD survived his brief tenure and soldiers on today.
He was the VP&GM of a newly setup division- Renewable Energy Division. Things got of well initially, and he got promoted.
Unfortunately the business didn't sustained and division was closed down after he left.
Many jobs were layoff as a result of the closure.
I was on Exec Conf for almost 10 years...know him well from his VP jobs and leading Korea. Mo--n. Always deer in headlights. STUNNED when he got job, and his incompetence is why I retired early. Inge put him in so he would look good in comparison. He is a boyscout as a human (i do believe that) but NEVER should have been CEO of a major company.
he was incharge of changing the light in the refrigerator, problem was the light was always on when he opened it, thought it was wasting energy when he closed the door,, never got around to working out how to turn the light off
He deleted my entire division when he was the IBG guy to make his numbers one year. You’ll be surprised to find out that repeating the word “synergies” and reducing head count did not result in a better customer experience or any more innovation.
Don't know him personally, but the silence says it all.
Some people are actually good at something but get promoted one step too high (peter principle).
Too pasty to be a real life guard in summer 🤪
Lifeguard while working summers in college. That's about it.
