Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

did done dirty

So, a week before going out on STD leave for hip surgery i get terminated. The regional HR guy had no clue of what happens with my existing STD claim. Called 1 HR Lowes and nobody at Sedgewick or shared services knew what happens next I guess it's highly unusual to be terminated just before going out on leave. !2 and a half years and many millions of dollars sold and this is how they do ya??? Any thoughts?

thanks for the reply. The only reason i thought you may know more about the situation was that you mentioned that "this person was close to retirement" and i don't believe i had mentioned that in my post.

I absolutely have no specific knowledge of your situation. You don’t sound like a problem at all to me. I’m sure you should be valued/should have been valued to a much greater degree than you are/were. I’m only pointing out that sometimes there are other factors involved, that you may not have any control over. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

okay, i just have to as.To the "problem people" and the should have fired this person YEARS ago poster.......is this a generic answer or do you think you know more about my exact situation? The problem people blast doesn't seem to fit in my case given various service star awards, bonuses etc. But it seems like an unusual post. If it is someone who knows of me please have the integrity to come forward as it may appear oi had no idea what the company/ store really thought. I certainly did not feel valued given my years of performance but had no idea that i was viewed as a problem child there. Please share what you can.

I’ve seen them fire “problem people” very suddenly, after years of problems stemming from this person’s bad behavior. But…this person was nearing retirement and I have a funny feeling that was the deciding factor. They should have fired this person YEARS before. To do it the way they did just seems mean.

Definitely sounds like an unlawful termination. Definitely look into getting a lawyer.

Yes, 12 and a half years worked against me not for me. Even having a sense that long term specialists would be targeted as cutbacks loomed likely, i didn't see this coming just before surgery. Termination reason given was not selling enough credit apps. I was #1 in overall sales $volume for our store several years running. LPP numbers were good as well. I handed in all my sales achievement plaques, customer services badges of all colors etc. All that meant nothing. And now my Short term disability pay will go from 60% to a mere $170 (which is what NYS disability will pay). Maybe going on leave this coming week was a factor. Maybe being in the Allowance class action suit was an issue. Maybe it was personal as write ups and now termination happened within a 7 month period after the new ASM was hired (last prior write up was about 7 years ago). Yeah, they nailed me pretty good.

You mentioned Sedgwick which is worker's comp. If your STD leave for hip surgery is a result of injury at work definitely contact a lawyer.
