Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

How can they be graded better?

It will never be clear to me how those who do almost nothing are graded better than those who give their best, but their performance is assessed as average.

There are always "favorites" that move on a different track than the others. Was in a meeting on the executive floor when a very average geotech had a great day in front of our executive. At the end, Jim Hackett was so impressed that he told all of us that this person was moving up. Wound up a VP at the time of the Oxy acquisition. It's ALL about opportunity AND timing at the end of the day. Being seen, first impressions and skill to back it up have always been the secret to moving up. The only other way was to find so much grease that they could not deny forward progress. It was a joke within APC to see the staff chosen to ascend and their clear history of not finding grease. Fortunately some of that was rectified at the merger. It can be frustrating to see this..You need to stay in your lane, do your best and make sure many eyes see your good work. Force them explain why you are not progressing! Good Luck
