Thread regarding 3M layoffs

Communications SVP Brian Henry is a textbook narcissist

Guy joins in 2020, and ki--s the spirit, health and well-being of his team. He does not miss a chance to put himself out front and his entire team loathes him. Obviously, he doesn’t know or doesn’t care. Given he’s a narc, he just doesn’t care. What an awful human being.

The dog and pony show in progress. Exciting time for moni-roma playing god with clichés galore. Bh gets paid to do this! Seriously!

Life is too short to have to spend 40+ hours each week with abusive individuals.

Also, getting someone’s makeup bag is ridiculous.

It is outrageous that such behavior is tolerated. What does that say about the rest of the management team?

Loved the term flying monkeys, in addition to agreeing that this individual is the personification of Peter Principle. It’s embarrassing what 3m’s exec conf has become. Eyes wide shut.

There is no pleasing them - You will do everything they ask and more and it still won’t be enough.

They will discipline you for things you haven’t done - They will make stuff up and get their flying monkeys to back them up.

They are great actors - When the bigger boss is around they will show you such care and concern. This will be an attempt at making issues look like your fault when the truth is the opposite.

They are dictators - They do not listen to reason. They expect compliance from you at all costs. They do not care if you have a more efficient way to do something.

They are punitive by nature - They enjoy punishing you and find creative ways to get this done. They relish the power they have over you. They also don’t reward you for the good stuff you’ve done.

They are extremely sensitive and moody - You have to be careful with the words you use, anything can trigger them to your detriment.

To those of us unfamiliar with this guy, what is his role? What has he done that is so terrible? Can you provide examples of his behavior? Thank you!!

Like tweedle dee (Roman), tweedle d-mb (Henry) should be terminated post-haste. GE is hiring.

It is one thing to disagree with the company’s direction. I don’t know anyone who agrees with everything MR has done. Henry reports into COC like everyone at 3M

It is below the belt to criticize someone’s personal life and talk about wife or family; or support for those experiencing pregnancy loss. We should be better than that. This kind of sh-t will get everyone blocked from the layoff. Fu----g stop it.

The worst part is Roman not only listens to him, but gives up the state to him. What kind of CEO lets a guy like this lead his little "huddles"? Step up Mike and lead instead of letting Brian tell you what to say. You don't even lead your own huddles, Brian does. Who is the leader of this company?

Pretty sad commentary on what has happened to the culture of this company this century. Used to be you could call the hot line and get someone like this investigated and perhaps disciplined and maybe even fired.

Now you run the risk that the hot line investigators with hunt YOU down with the help of a few narcs in your area who are cost with the boss. Not worth it.

Ps I wonder how often the so-called leaders actually read this board. I wouldn't bet against it. But it sure passes them off

Wow this is terrible! If 3M/HR allows abuse like this to happen then they are part of the problem. I'm reminded of those stories featured on Eyewitness News Investigative Reporting segments where the news anchor calls out the person/issue and the problem miraculously suddenly gets resolved so as to stop any more bad press.

there is one just like him in every plant, we had one here at UK site and thankfully he got he is gone but leaves behind employees who have mental health issues because of him, amazing to see how HR always back the manager or exec ahead of a worker bee as the worker is just a number with zero respect from HR and easily replacable, i see Mother Mining bringing out the bi-annual (we dont retaliate motto to employees) , what a load of $hit. the narcs all live at openly aware of their power and don't care how they abuse power,, be strong worker bees, but be careful who you report any problems to, they will get you in the long grass

Has anyone reported this guy for harassment? Or otherwise abusive behavior towards other employees? How is he still a 3Mer?

So glad someone finally said it. Technically being "incapable of feeling human emotion" hints towards being sociopath, but if the shoe fits... And boy, does it fit!

Since we're going there, his corporate twin, SVP Brand and Design Brian Rice, is also a raging, stunningly incompetent narcissist. Hides behind his leadership teams, has them do all the heavy lifting and hard work, steals their work and promotes it as his own and then he spends his days promoting himself inside and outside the company.

Wonder why HR hasn't investigated how someone who was fired from his last job and lied about his qualifications to get this one, ended up as an executive in our company? It's no wonder this company is going down the drain.

He acts like he's mad GE didn't hire him for the same role and now has to use his GE style skills on 3M employees. Disgusting.

I am old now and one tactic I always used, successfully, with individuals like Kevin, was to keep my voice in a conversational tone, even a little lower, and when I was disrespected by the perp, I would say something like:

"Please don't talk to me that way."

"Let's try to get this conversation to a place where it can be productive."

"Let's take a break and come back to this later."

“That statement was completely uncalled for.”

Responding to childlike behavior as an adult versus like a child or a parent will throw these miscreants off their game. I had one person get so angry that he blew his stack, and I just let him carry on like a lunatic.

You have to stand for something or you fall for anything.

It is a job, not a license to abuse people. Try it.

Narcissistic personality disorder — one of several types of personality disorders — is a mental condition in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance, a deep need for excessive attention and admiration, troubled relationships, and a lack of empathy for others. But behind this mask of extreme confidence lies a fragile self-esteem that's vulnerable to the slightest criticism.

Thank you for posting this. To see all the communications professionals scramble like crazy for Brian so they don’t get on his bad list is just “yuck.” I haven’t said anything about it to anyone for more than two years, but I have had a huge pit in my stomach ever since he joined 3M. That man is a talking, walking time bo-b.

Seriously, he is dangerous. He loves to hear himself talk, but if you really listen, he says nothing. He is an angry, petulant little child, who must’ve been hurt or abused in some irretrievable way when he was young. He uses his wife and kids as props to pretend that he’s a good man. But he makes everyone around him and supporting him feel like the smallest piece of sand on the planet. He can talk a good game and has all the chops to do so. But the man has no heart, no soul, and no regard for fellow human beings. Life is a game to him, where he is perpetually winning, at least in his mind I would argue that he is the loser in all this. He will never truly feel human emotion other than pretending to do so, because it makes him more palatable, He’s simply not capable.
