Why would you stay at this lousy company? I quit in 2007 and never looked back. I left because there wasn’t any money to go around. And when there was a scrap from the table, it went to the UAW. That’s right, I have an engineering degree from a top university and those high school dropout junkies that work the line were in front of me for a meager raise.
In the “good years” where Ford didn’t lose as much money as they could have, I could get a $600 bonus as a GSR 8 engineer. If I worked 100 hours per week. I could get an “outstanding” rating. With that rating I could bump my raise from 1% to 2.5%. After taxes, I would be better off mowing my neighbors lawn for cash and I would have the extra 40-60 hours back each week that I wasted away on the launch or whatever. I could have stuck around for the pension, but with Ford’s balance sheet, it’s highly likely the pension won’t ever materialize because it’s underfunded for salary employees.
Anyone who has hope that a Ford career will result in success is blindly optimistic. The ones that got laid off are the lucky ones. This company will never get you where you want to be. Quit now and cut the losses! You won’t regret it!
