Thread regarding 3M layoffs

👑Quiet Firing

My boss won't meet with me, I do mostly busy work, no raise or promotion in years.
It's like she wants me to leave so she won't have to lay me off and pay a severance.
Has anybody else noticed this behavior?

If you are emailing her with work updates and/or requests for meeting blind copy your personal email to keep the documentation. I do that constantly with my manager. She isn’t freezing me but changes the rules constantly to fit her needs.

I have been there - more than once. As other wise folks on this thread have commented, stay on task, enjoy the people and customers you get to work with, document your work.

She is probably under the same stress, modeling behavior from the top down.

The more the organization talks about the value of people, and respecting everyone, the worse it gets.

Retiree here, but long time people leader. You are getting what companies like GE and ExxonMobil have practiced for a long time. Known as the freeze out. They want you to leave without getting any severance. I know because this was a dirty little secret people like Mcnerney pushed behind closed doors when he arrived about 20 years ago. All I can say is enjoy the people you work with and stay on task. Send this woman frequent updates by email. It will pi-s her off to no end. Know that she will read every line and fume because she, like leaders after Mcnerney ruined the culture, are promoted for being able to save a few Benjamin's by having people leave without costing the company. Like some else said, she will get the same treatment and get canned herself if she doesn't leave in disgust. The 3M I once knew has morphed into an ugly monster that only neutron jack Welch could love.

She's probably going through the same thing with her boss and may be being replaced herself. These kinds of treatment trickles down. She may have one foot out the door and does not care about the job any more. If she wanted you to leave, she would put you on PIP or something like it.

Keep working on what you think is important. Document what you do. Treat her like she has the plague and don't let he get into your head anymore. Send her regular emails giving her update on your progress. You have a leader that would never have made it under the true 3M. Just know that your collecting a paycheck probably pi---s her off. Relish that you are still employed in spite of her acting like a GE robot. Time for you to get into her head.

Ps there are a lot of leaders like that in today's corrosive 3M.

Is a reason given for the refusal to meet?

Have you considered speaking with your bosses boss?
