Thread regarding VMware layoffs

In a parallel universe where no acquisition took place

It is true that VMW needed some changes, but I do not like the fact that we are now talking about its acquisition. I personally think that the acquisition should not have happened and I wonder what the future of the company would be like if it had not happened? What do you think?

Without the accquisition, vmw would have continued to rot with a lack of business and technical leadership. It would have gone they way of many other industry darlings.

Windriver
Compaq
HP
Atari
Commodore
DEC
Cirrus
(most graphics card companies)

to name a few

I feel a takeover was inevitable despite the celebration at being independent after the Dell spin. I have to admit I never thought it would be BCOM but what is clear is that a lot of our back office structure is a mess and will be resolved under their ownership...

I dont feel good about their culture or level of change and cuts that are now expected though.
